Tips for Labour Pain

Meet Rosie, the newest addition to the family and she is completely beautiful.

Getting her into the world was a little more tricky. To put it bluntly, for most of us labour really, really, really, really hurts. Labour can also be full of all sorts of complications, anxieties, sudden changes and real challenges. Most of us hope for a smooth birth but a lot of the time that simply doesn’t happen and the complications that women can experience are frightening in all sorts of ways.

However, there is a way that you can utilise your own personal strengths and your own inner calm to ease the labour of child birth and all that comes with it.

I have worked with quite a few mums now as they prepare themselves for this truly life changing time.

Hypnotherapy can help you to trust yourself, to stay focused and it can also help you to ride contractions through without becoming completely overwhelmed.

It can also help you to stay positive. For many women labour is not only intense but it is also not a smooth experience. Things can change in a single moment and sometimes it is difficult to stay calm but hypnotherapy can help with exactly that.

It is important to feel confident in your body and in your mind during labour and also when you become a mum but this is easier said then done. With hormones flying everywhere, sleep deprivation, fears and the impact that being a mum can have it is not surprising that many women don’t feel confident at all.

So here is my guide to easing labour pain and making the whole process a little easier.

  1. Express your fears.

If your worried about pain, needles, losing control something going on then express your concerns and make sure that you do so to the right people. Tell your friends by all means but the people who are going to be with you on the day also need to know. They will be the ones who will get you through it and they need to know. Make a list of who will be with you and make sure that you have addressed your fears with them.

2. Take a warm shower or bath.

If you can and it’s safe to do so take a warm shower or bath it can help to relax you and aid the labour process.

3. Empower yourself

Every woman is different, the way that they give birth is different. So make sure that you understand your options and what they mean for you. Talk to the experts and your friends so that you can feel good about any decisions that you might want to make about your birth.

4. Stay active.

It might seem like the last thing that you want to do but if you try to stay active during labour by walking around you might find that things ease up a bit. Obviously, listen to your body and go with what it is feeling too.

5. Try UFO

UFO is upright, forward and over. If its safe to do so, then leaning over can potentially really help during labour. The position can be more comfortable and make labour somewhat easier.

If this helps you then great, but you can use hypnotherapy to practice breathing techniques, visualisation and relaxation before you give birth in order to prepare yourself a little more.

7 easy peasy weight loss tips.

Some of us just don't want to work hard to lose weight. We don't have the time to spend 30 hours in the gym every week and the idea of not being able to eat crisps is less than appealing.

But it is possible to lose weight by making small but significant changes to your everyday routine. In fact, many of my clients have seen some dramatic results.

So here are my top 10 weight loss tips that don't require very much effort.

1. Stick a picture of your ideal self on the fridge.

Maybe there's an old pic of you when you were slimmer and looking good. If you take that and stick it on the fridge, you'll be reminded of your goal and how good you looked. This means that when you reach for those extra snacks, you'll think twice at the moment that you see that awesome picture.

2. Park in the furthest parking space that you can find.

Whether at work, supermarket, shopping centre, whatever, try to park in the furthest spot away. This means that you'll have to walk to get to where you are going. And, if you have to walk some extra steps with some shopping bags in your hands then that great too.

3. Take the stairs.

Again, most of us are parking close to work, getting in the lift, only to sit down all day at work, leave the office, get in the car and sit down for dinner. All that sitting is bad for your health. So as well as parking further away, take the stairs to your office. You'll be moving more than you did before and in a few weeks, you might find that you start running up them.

4. Sip water when you eat

This tip is awesome because sipping water at meal times will slow down your eating. Many people have got into the habit of eating quickly which means that it becomes really easy to over eat. But if you take breaks in your meals to sip on water, you will force yourself to eat slower, enabling your stomach to tell you when you're full.

5. If you're going to drink swap beer and wine for white spirits.

Okay, so alcohol is not the best thing when it comes to dieting. Alcohol is normally full of sugar, so its like eating a pudding that makes you also want to eat pizza at the end of the night.

But for many people alcohol is also fun and a social outlet. Therefore, if youre going to drink swap beer and wine for white spirits.

Its all about the calories. A standard 5% strength beer will have between 170 and 215 kcal per pint.

A standard measure of gin and slimline tonic only has 59 calories

So if you're going to drink, then gin it is....

6. Wear your tight clothes for a day.

You will have some clothes in the wardrobe that are a bit tight when you put them on. Get them out. A lot of us have no idea that we are putting on weight and can ignore it simply by buying a bigger size. But this tip is about forcing you to realise that it is happening and take action.

By wearing these clothes for a day, you will put your weight to the front of your mind, you'll be able to feel roughly how much has gone on and you'll be inspired to get back into that outfit.

7. After you have done number 6... take yourself shopping and buy an awesome outfit in a size smaller.

Treat yourself to that dress or shirt that you want to look good in. Buy it in the size you want to be and tell yourself that you're going to get there. Hang it in the place that you can see it. Imagine how awesome you're going to look and feel when you get there.

I use these techniques with my clients and (many more) they have seen some great results. Weight loss isn't just about calories. Its about changing your attitude and your relationship with yourself.

Below is a recording specifically designed to help you to get started. To become more aware of your body and to train your mind so that you are more in control of your cravings.

Mossman-Pacey paradox and male fertility

Scientists have recently discovered what they call an evolutionary paradox in men. Some men are literally damaging their fertility to look good with the use of steroids. Self esteem in men is incredibly important. Regardless of their sexual orientation or identity men have a need to perform. It helps them to feel that they can adequately satisfy their partners and increases their sense of masculinity.

There are a growing proportion of men who equate muscles with the ability to feel as though they can perform, be attractive and attract a partner. This has turned them towards increasing steroid use. However, the steroids that they are taking are causing them to become less fertile suffer erectile dysfunction. Paradoxically this leaves a man feeling and even becoming less attractive to their partner due to an inability to perform.

How does this relate to therapy and how can Hypnotherapy help?

Well, the bottom line is that men are no different to women when it comes to self esteem, confidence and the need to find a partner.

In fact men are often considered to be incredibly sensitive in this area.

When you look good, you feel good. Who doesn’t want to feel good? Steroid use boost this and the way someone looks in the mirror can distract them from the dramatic and sometimes long term use of steroids.

Is there any good news?

Men can learn to increase their sense of self esteem by resolving the issues that lead to their insecurities in the first place. Perhaps it was a previous relationship? Maybe it was an overly critical father? Did someone cheat?

Resolving those issues and instilling a greater sense of self can prevent a person becoming obsessed with their body and therefore the steroid usage.

Hypnotherapy can help to resolve the underlying issue and break habits.
